Strength

We know strength matters.

For strong bones, healthy joints and muscle mass.

For a better metabolism, confidence, independence and ultimately, for staying active and capable as we age.

But maybe the gym just isn’t your scene.

Maybe you know you should be lifting heavier, but you’re unsure how.

Or maybe you’ve simply realised that you train better, more consistently and more confidently when you’re surrounded by a great group of people doing it with you. It's way more fun this way too!

That’s exactly what we created our Strength Classes for.

Strength is held in our upstairs Strength Studio, limited to just 10 people.

Strength is a structured, progressive strength training program designed to help you get stronger.

FAQs
What equipment do you use for this class?

Using dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, the smith machine, cables and other gym equipment, we’ll focus on the fundamental movement patterns your body needs including pushing, pulling, squatting, hinging, carrying and core strength.

How does this differ to a bootcamp class?

This is not a Bootcamp or Functional Fitness Class. This isn’t about racing the clock or squeezing in as many reps as possible. We slow things down, lift with intention and give you enough rest to lift well. You’ll be encouraged to progressively increase your weights and work close to muscular fatigue, because that’s where the magic happens when it comes to building and maintaining muscle.

What if I've never done Strength training before?

Absolutely fine! This welcoming small group environment allows for great coaching and encouragement with absolutely no need to already “be strong” or know what you're doing at all. Your sessions are programmed and led by Michelle, drawing on almost 20 years of experience across exercise, strength training and orthopaedic rehabilitation. You're in good hands!! You’ll be coached on technique, supported to choose the right weight for you and challenged appropriately for your individual level.

What does Strength 1, Strength 2 and Strength 3 mean?

We have three different Strength programs that we run each week: Strength 1, Strength 2 and Strength 3. When you book through Momence, you’ll see each Strength class labelled with the program being taught that day. Each program focuses on different muscle groups and movement patterns, so across the three sessions you’ll get a well-rounded strength training week. We label the classes so you can easily see which program you’re booking and avoid accidentally doing the same workout on back-to-back days. You absolutely don’t need to attend all three, nor start with Strength 1. If you train with us once or twice a week, simply choose the classes that suit your schedule. If you attend three times a week, aim for Strength 1, 2 & 3 for the most balanced week of training.
